  • On February 23, 2017, Dr. Suresh Gutta, a former GeoInstitute Pittsburgh Chapter Chairperson, and Project Manager for American Geotechnical and Environmental Services, Inc., will present a discussion of the geotechnical investigations, analyses and remediation of the New Baltimore Landslide performed for the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission in Somerset County, Pa.   • On March 23, 2017, the GeoInstitute will collaborate with the Women in Deep Foundations Committee of DFI to present a program on Communication in a diverse workforce. Ms. Nancy Watt, a communications professional and graduate of Second City Comedy Improv Conservatory will present recent research on gender differences in communication and the importance of good communication to a successful business. The dinner meeting will begin at 7 pm at the Engineers Society of Western Pennsylvania, 337 Fourth Avenue Pittsburgh, PA.
  • On April 8th, 2017, the GeoInstitute will collaborate with the DFI Augered Cast-In-Place Pile Committee to present an 8-hour short course on the subject of the design and construction practices for Auger Cast and Drilled Displacement Pile foundations. Presentations will be conducted by multiple members of DFI’s ACIP Committee, focusing on current design and construction methods as well as leading open discussions of the variety of applications where these types of foundations are suitable through selected project examples. The all-day event will be held at the Engineers Society of Western Pennsylvania, 337 Fourth Avenue Pittsburgh, PA, with food and beverage service provided on site. NY State PDH approvals are currently being sought by the organizing committee.
